Ways to Keep a Healthy Battery Status

It’s crucial that you never take your car’s battery for granted or let it fall out of sight. As with many other parts of a vehicle, the vehicle’s transmission needs maintenance and care to work properly.
Here are a few tips to ensure your car battery stays in good working order.

Every four-year change

To ensure your vehicle operates properly, it’s a good idea to change your car battery every four years. If you forget this, then you will risk damage to your car. Do not extend the battery life of your camping device for longer than necessary because nothing is worse than losing power midway through your journey.

Make sure the acid level is correct

A valid battery should be tested every six months for acid level. Keep your eyes out for acid stratification, which occurs when batteries are below 80 percent charged, do not receive full charges, or discharge shallowly. When a battery stratifies, the electrolytes concentrate at the bottom, leaving the top starved. Using power-robbing accessories on your car and driving short distances with the engine primarily on threatens your battery.

Carefully add water

As soon as you notice that the electrolyte levels are low (the plates are exposed), use distilled water to replenish them. Be careful when doing this and only fill the cells to cover the plates. Adding water is best done with a funnel or sports bottle since you can control how much water flows. You can charge the battery with a battery charger once you’ve topped off the water levels.

Test your battery’s load

Each month, you should have a mechanic check your batteries for a load. The purpose of this is to guarantee that even in freezing temperatures, the device can charge.

Battery cleaning

A battery can suffer if it becomes contaminated with dirt and debris. Additionally, corrosion can occur on nearby metals, which is why it’s important to keep the battery top and the terminals clean. Cleaning windows with ammonia-based products is often recommended, particularly when used with a wire brush. Baking soda and water can also be applied to get rid of “crust.” Cleaning corrosion with baking soda and water is particularly effective. In general, you should consider the brush damp instead of wet. Ensure there is no baking soda residue left on the battery, as this can cause corrosion. In order to maintain the integrity of the battery, ensure that no fluid is allowed into the ports.

Tie cables securely

Keeping your cables securely tethered is essential to prevent them from moving. By doing so, you will be able to keep everything secure.

Avoid leaving your car for too long

The battery will drain if you don’t drive your car for too long. At least three times each week, you should drive your vehicle.

Warm up the battery

It would be best if you keep your battery warm during winter since cold weather is not good for it. When it’s cold, car owners often recommend using engine or battery heaters to keep their vehicles running. Additionally, they reduce the amount of power consumed by the battery, which is a bonus.

Never overcharge

To prevent damage to your battery, don’t overcharge it when charging manually. Every half an hour, make sure the battery is still at its max capacity.
